The init string I'm using for the dialing end is: AT&FS0=0&C1&D3&R2&H1&B1&K1&M4&W (dip switches 3,5,8 down). This is an external modem (in my case) plugged into an A/S port on a Cisco 2520 router. The problem is identical to this FreeBSD problem. I'm starting to wonder if it has to do with deflate compression negotiation.
