I have the same problem.  I just change it directly in the
config file --> ~/.q3a/demoq3/q3config.cfg

Look for the lines with r_customwidth and r_customheight

Not sure about depth...

Hey, it worked... except I can't change depth or resolution. If I do, I
get 
the same errormessage...
