In case someone is still having problems getting a Rage XL chip
(e.g. the on-board one in Blade 100 or Sun PGX64 cards) to work
with xorg-server-6.8.2_2 or just can make some poor modes like
640x480 to work check the "Reference clock" line in Xorg.0.log.
If it reads 14.318 MHz then the 'ati' driver detected the wrong
reference frequency. As a work-around add the following line to
the respective 'Device' section of your xorg.conf:
Option      "reference_clock"   "28.636 MHz"
