I will pose this as a question since I don't know for sure whether this would work, maybe someone could verify. If you had a specific keymap entry in /etc/rc.conf, would running /etc/netstart reset the keyboard? I use netstart to reread rc.conf pretty often, and I have my keymap specified as keymap="/usr/share/syscons/keymaps/us.iso.kbd".
