Is it possible to read the Volume Label of a CD-ROM from the command
line or shell script?. If not from the command line, then in a C
program?

By "Volume Label" I mean the DOS 11 character "name" for a
disk/partition, e.g. the FreeBSD 3.1 CDs have the label ``fbsd31_X''
where ``X'' is the CD number.
