SB Pro compat. mode with ESS works well for me.
edit /sys/i386/isa/sound/local.h
search '#define CONFIG_SBPRO' and copy it outside of #if NSBXVI ... #endif.
I experienced 'NOTE! SB Pro support required with your soundcard!' message
w/o edit this. and not pcm driver.
