I believe they have completed loading all emails going back to 1994. You can search the FreeBSD lists here: http://freebsd.markmail.org. A view of how many messages they've indexed: http://markmail.org/browse/?q=list:org.freebsd The FAQ: http://markmail.org/docs/faq.xqy MarkMail is an absolutely outstanding search facility - perhaps the best I've ever seen. There is an outdated link on http://www.freebsd.org/search/search.html#mailinglists that points to GeoCrawler.
