Hmmm.
[wcarchive:davidg] traceroute smart1.svi.org
traceroute to smart1.svi.org (192.216.191.10), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets
1 F0-CRL-SFO-01-F0/0.US.CRL.NET (165.113.58.1) 1.705 ms 0.911 ms 1.501 ms
2 pb.mci.net (198.32.128.12) 2.269 ms 2.082 ms 2.196 ms
3 borderx1-hssi3-0.SanFrancisco.mci.net (204.70.158.105) 24.898 ms 21.461 ms 7.010 ms
4 barrnet.SanFrancisco.mci.net (204.70.158.102) 8.682 ms 7.184 ms 6.291 ms
5 su-a.bbnplanet.net (192.31.48.200) 183.231 ms * 5.063 ms
6 su-c.bbnplanet.net (192.31.48.3) 11.953 ms 7.648 ms 5.925 ms
7 smart1.svi.org (192.216.191.10) 11.504 ms 7.822 ms 7.447 ms
("smart1" is a machine that used to be sitting next to wcarchive at Stanford)
The return path has the "pacbell-nap-atm..." in it just as you have above,
however:
[wcarchive:davidg] ttcp -p9 -n32 -t smart1.svi.org
ttcp-t: buflen=8192, nbuf=32, align=16384/+0, port=9 tcp -> smart1.svi.org
ttcp-t: socket
ttcp-t: connect
ttcp-t: 262144 bytes in 0.55 real seconds = 464.12 KB/sec +++
ttcp-t: 32 I/O calls, msec/call = 17.65, calls/sec = 58.01
...so I don't think it's the ATM.
