If anyone remembers my ISP problems before, they were solved by setting the speed value in my ppp script to the correct amount. That eliminated the random dropouts. But now i have a new problem. I switched from RCN to a local ISP in the eastern US. I used the exact same script entries for ppp.conf and ppp.linkup, except for switching PAP for script-based login. All seems well until a few seconds after connection. I can ping away as long as i want, but as soon as i try any real data transfer, the connection hangs. The interface is still there, but ping, netscape, and telnet all hang. The ISP admin is baffled as well. When i call his servers directly (BSDi boxes) i have zero problems. But when i call a router contracted by his ISP for my local calling area, the connection chokes. Any ideas? Essential info: FreeBSD 3.4-stable on a Toshiba laptop. using user-ppp with PAP nameserver works fine for a little while, and i am able to receive a local dynamic ISP and gateway address. I would stick with the direct connection, but it is long distance. -=> jm <=- Please CC me on all replies ------------------------------------------------------- "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very, very brightly."
