I checked the machine where I work, and it's using 1364331 Kbytes.

So I "rm -rf"'d the repository, recreated the directory, and ran my
script again.  Now I'm using 1364966 Kbytes.  Close enough.  But I
wonder what was taking up that other half of the space.
