-> 100 mb with bonnie is not a representative benchmark of _disk_ speed. use -> 4 x your amount of physical memory. Just as a datapoint, I ran bonnie with 512MB file size (I have 128MB RAM, using an Adaptec AHA2940-U2W card and IBM 9LZX DRVS-09V). Note that I don't yet have an LVD cable so this drive is running in ULTRA2/SE mode (40MB/sec). This is a Celeron 400 o/c to 450 on an Asus P2B MB with 1008 BIOS: -------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential Input-- --Random-- -Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per Char- --Block--- --Seeks--- Machine MB K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU /sec %CPU IBM DRVS 512 6535 93.7 15863 21.0 5694 14.9 5546 89.5 16018 14.1 91.5 1.6 And the same test on my Quantum Viking 2.3NSE Ultra Narrow running on a 2940 Ultra controller, same machine: -------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential Input-- --Random-- -Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per Char- --Block--- --Seeks--- Machine MB K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU /sec %CPU Quantum 512 5640 80.9 6207 8.2 3099 7.1 5293 84.7 10036 8.1 67.6 1.1 Michael -- "I am not a paranoid." - Randy Michael Nelson San Francisco, CA nelson@imat.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe aic7xxx" in the body of the message
