FWIW, this may be of help. I had KDE2 installed. Before installing KDE3 I used pkg_deinstall to remove all the different packages of KDE2. The initial install of KDE3 went without a hitch much to my surprise... A few weeks later port upgrades became available and I tried to use the portupgrade program to update KDE3 but I was bombing out in the kdelibs stage too. Since I had XFCE up and running (and really liking it!) I decided to try and wipe out KDE3 and install it all over again. That didn't work either as I was bombing out with messages like this: ====== krootpixmap.cpp:24: netwm.h: No such file or directory krootpixmap.cpp:25: dcopclient.h: No such file or directory In file included from krootpixmap.cpp:27: ksharedpixmap.h:21: kpixmap.h: No such file or directory In file included from krootpixmap.cpp:27: ksharedpixmap.h:53: syntax error before `{' cpp0: output pipe has been closed gmake[3]: *** [krootpixmap.lo] Error 1 gmake[3]: Leaving directory `/max/ports/x11/kdelibs3/work/kdelibs-3.0.1/kdeui' gmake[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/max/ports/x11/kdelibs3/work/kdelibs-3.0.1/kdeui' gmake[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/max/ports/x11/kdelibs3/work/kdelibs-3.0.1' gmake: *** [all] Error 2 *** Error code 2 Stop in /max/ports/x11/kdelibs3. *** Error code 1 Stop in /max/ports/x11/kdebase3. *** Error code 1 Stop in /max/ports/x11/kde3. ======= Google searches turned up nothing useful either. I noticed that QT2 was still installed on my system as was the arts pkg, an audio system for the KDE desktop. When I went to pkg_deinstall QT2 it complained about licq (and another dependent licq package that needed QT2). I went ahead and pkg_deinstalled them, then the arts package, then QT2. I even went ahead and pkg_deinstalled QT3 for good measure. After that KDE3 installed without a hitch. I don't claim to understand why it worked but it did. HTH.
