I have a number of linux machines with an aic7890/1 and a Western
Digital wd-9100 harddisk. On half of them it works but on the other
half I'm getting bus resets when mkfs tries to write the superblock.

All this, while running kernel 2.2.2 and driver 5.1.12.

/proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0 says:

  Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 5.1.12/3.2.4
  Compile Options:
TCQ Enabled By Default : Disabled
    AIC7XXX_PROC_STATS : Disabled
    AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY : 5

  Adapter Configuration:
SCSI Adapter: Adaptec AIC-7890/1 Ultra2 SCSI host adapter
                             Ultra2-LVD/SE Wide Controller

Adapter SEEPROM Config: SEEPROM found and used.

/proc/scsi/scsi says:

The error messages I get are:
