we have an exabyte 8500 tape drive connected to a SGI box running IRIX 6.2. i can dump to it from my freebsd boxes, but the performance is terrible - around 18k/sec. this is almost unusable. i just tried dumping from a solaris (intel) box and it got 160k/second! all three boxes (freebsd, solaris, irix) are on the same ethernet segment, so it can't be a network latency problem. i've tried various blocksizes and it's the same story no matter what - 18k/sec. any ideas? -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...
