I learnt (after being corrected, many years ago) to write the two words in =
that
way, because some English speakers do pronounce hotel as beginning with a
vowel. As the French would say, un h=C3=B4tel.

I always write as if it begins with a vowel, and I always speak as if it be=
gins
with the consonant. Extraordinary.
