From single user mode, try adding his name and IP into the host file.

    Someone I know have a problem with a computer running FreeBSD.

    When it boots it halts in setting the hostname.

    It has no problem booting up in config or singleuser mode.

    Sounds like a configuration error, could you please give a hint about
how to make it work?
