It was a farily easy transition since 'everything is where it should be'... You will find most if not all things familiar. So why 12 PCI slots ? Above you have 5 segments, 2 of which probably should be on the same switched segments (3 and 4) since there will be a lot of cross talk... > >Since I've always used an El-Cheapo, works-out-of-the-box router, I >have a *massive* amount of homework to do before I take this project >on. I'll want this new router to perform a lot of advanced magic. If you are looking for routing magic of the cisco variety, you will be a little disappointed. Yeah, gated supports OSPF and BGP, but the free version is not nearly as configurable and tuneable as a fairly modern IOS (even basic things like AS path padding does not exist in the public gated). There are other alternatives in the works, but they are all labeled the Alpha variety, and I have no experience with them although one project looks promising (Zebra) >Finally, my question: Where can I find some in-depth documentation on >using FreeBSD for such a project (aside from `man gated'). www.gated.org, specifically look through the archives... But it can be quite sparse, and a lot of the talk switches back and forth between the 4.x release and the 3.x release which dont have the same features. ---Mike Mike Tancsa (mdtancsa@sentex.net) Sentex Communications Corp, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
