Definitively agreed! I just got around last week to looking at it
(although it had been on my radar for some time longer), and I must say
I quite like it. Especially because I can now pass options to the ports
building (which is the main reason I use ports, not packages) - such
as -DA4 for ghostscript.

portupgrade hasn't fubar'ed things yet, but I must admit that I haven't
really done a major shared library upgrade either. But at least it's
worth a look!
