Just to keep you alerted: My patch is a workaround, not a solution. Like "kicking the TV", violating the PPP protocol. It might probably break the system for ppp over other media, but is ok for us users who simply want to connect to a internet provider until the real issue gets fixed. Because of its fishy nature I don't know how to sell this change to the send-pr database. Maybe as "PPP_RELAXED_PROTOCOL" option in the kernel config?
