Just do $ cd ~ $ ls -lda .gconf* .gnome* ... and you'll see those hidden directories. To remove them use $ rm -rf .gconf* .gnome* Or you may rename them first if you want to unvestigate the case. Note: you'll loose all your gnome configuration while deletting those directories.
