Here is the scenario:

1. Power cycle the laptop
2. Insert the DVD 8.0 beta-3
3. Press ESC key to select boot device
4. Select ATAPI CD/DVD device
5. DVD drive makes a little sound
6. One can see a (-) cursor blink in the top left screen.
stays that way forever.

If in step 2, i replaced with 8.0 beta-2 DVD and followed the
same steps. The sysinstall familiar interface comes up fine.

In fact, i've got identical hardware and the DVD issue was
repro'd on both the Compaq C301 TU laptops.
