At least I'm moving away from MicroSuck, and I searched for a week before I had to ask a question. I've been using FreeBSD for awhile now and am fairly familiar with the overall system, but now I've decided to go a little deeper and use it as my web server. I've been trying for a couple days now to setup SlashCode (http://www.slashcode.com or http://slashdot.org) because I like the site features and layout. Don't worry, my question doesn't relate to that, but arose because of it. In order for /. to work, it requires mysql, apache, and their code (slash) to startup in that order at system boot. No problem; just wrote a short little script to start everything, put it in the rc.d directory and it works just fine. The problem arises when I shutdown or restart the system. I get an error/message saying that I'm using the old style rc scripts, and that I should change them to recognize the stop command. I've just finished digging around freebsd.org (spent a little over an hour) and I can't find a reference to this message anywhere. All I wanna know is two things: 1) What should an rc script/s look like? & 2) How do I right the script to start and stop these software elements in the way that freebsd likes? Well, ok, 3 things: 3) Should I be using rc.local or something else instead & how do I make that work? Post it here or mailto:buzzwang@gamersgarrison.com Thanks in advance! ------=_NextPart_001_0006_01C0C710.AA2305C0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D"text/html; = charset=3Diso-8859-1"> <META NAME=3D"Generator" CONTENT=3D"MS Exchange Server version = 5.5.2788.0"> <TITLE></TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <P><FONT SIZE=3D2 FACE=3D"Arial">Ok, don't hate cause I'm relatively = new.
