I think all the Quantum Atlas series >have always been 7200 rpm. That speed tends to create that high-pitch whine. Yes, it is a 5400 rpm drive. I don't see that as a problem for end users. Indeed, the lower speed means less heat and less noise. I would have chosen a 5400 rpm drive over a 7200 rpm drive for these reasons, even if they were the same price. I am very please with my DCAS 4GB drive, and certainly don't think of it as slow (~7MB/s with iozone). I know a few people with the 2GB variant and they have had no problems either. Stephen.
