Clary Harridge stands accused of saying: > > we are finding that when we do ftp transfers between a samba client > running WfWg and a FreeBSD samba server You don't say anything about your hardware or which FTP client software you're using. It's quite possible that the BSD machine is overrunning the WfW system and thus having to retry. You could try bugging the driver vendor for your ethernet card, or perhaps go for a card with more onboard memory. > WfWg client <==> WfWg client 191 Kbyte/sec > WfWg client => Samba server 191 Kbyte/sec > WfWg client <= Samba server 19.9 Kbyte/sec You could also (puke) upgrade to W95; its ethernet performance is significantly better. Client : W95, DX4/100, NE2000 clone. Sever : FreeBSD 2.1-STABLE, P100, DEC-based PCI ethernet. Server -> client 570K/sec. Client -> server 630K/sec. > Clary Harridge University of Queensland, QLD, Australia, 4072 -- ]] Mike Smith, Software Engineer msmith@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] Genesis Software genesis@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] High-speed data acquisition and (GSM mobile) 0411-222-496 [[ ]] realtime instrument control (ph/fax) +61-8-267-3039 [[ ]] Collector of old Unix hardware.
