Just as an update, I've tried the latest FT 2 CVS snapshot, and the problem persists. Some users have already reported pango problems with FT 2.1.0. I'm thinking of reverting freetype2 to 2.0.9 for now until the issues can be sorted out. The next release of pango may bring about FT 2.1.0 support, but I haven't checked. As for the Nautilus 1.0.6 issues, I've sent email to the freetype people to get their take on this. I'll keep everyone informed.
