Oh, did you try it before?  Did you get the "thanks for your bug
report" reply back?  What was the identification number and subject?
(I can't find anything that contains "ripe" or "whois" in the gnats
database.)

Hmm, there is something called /usr/ports/net/rwhois.  Could this be
related?
