I've heard it suggested several times as an easy way to measure/bill traffic but I've yet to encounter any examples on the web of how to do it. I have started to put together some code to do it, but before I go any further I thought I'd ask for pointers. No point in reinventing the wheel... So far though, all my google searches for "bandwidth measurement billing scripts ipfw" have just ended up yielding a bunch of pages where people say, "yeah you should use ipfw for bandwidth measurement and billing! It's heaps easy and very effective!". If it turns out that there are no actual examples on the web I guess I'll just have to plough on with the coding and then perhaps publish my scripts myself!
