Some code is only compilable with gcc-2.7.2, as that's not the base
compiler in 4.x, there is a port for it.  Some code only compiles with
gcc-2.8, that has never been the base compiler, thus there is a port for
it.  Some code really wants the latest compiler, under 3.x that is not
the system compiler, thus there is a port for it.
