I know that I can either add "options GATEWAY" to the kernel, or I can use sysctl. Both of these work. I vaguely recall hearing rumours that sysctl was the preferred method, but I haven't seen any rationale for this. Is "options GATEWAY" going to be removed from future releases of FreeBSD, in which case I may as well use sysctl from the start. Or is it just a matter of personal style?
