Ok, if it is external:
1. Make sure the COM port it is hooked up to is enabled.
2. Make sure that FreeBSD detects the required serial port (COM1 =
   sio0, and COM2 = sio1)
3. If you are dual-booting your computer with Windows, does it work
   under Windows?

I can't think of anything else. Maybe someone else on the lists can
help you.
