Ah hmm.  Actually no.  That sounds like a fundamental missing link.  I'm also
having problems communicating through the serial link to define the RAID set.  I
had a null modem cable but looks like I need a straight through serial cable
which I also try next.

Do you have a RAID set defined? Assuming the CRD-5500 works like the
CRD-5600, it'll only be recognized as a SCSI disk (and show up in boot
messages etc) if a RAID set is defined.
