Actually, I got 4 thankyou's and one "about time!" that were not CC'ed
anywhere.  It wasn't worth arguing about.  The present compromise should
be workable.

I also got a suggestion/request that we allow an ifconfig_default
variable that will be used if there is only one ethernet interface and
there are no other settings.  The effect of this would be that you could
pull out PCI card X and put in a different card Y (assuming drivers present
of course) and not have to change anything.

Also, with regards to the dhcp configuration process and not wanting
interfaces automatically configured..  Under my original change it wouldn't
have been set because there would be no $ifconfig_foo0 setting.  One could
have had /etc/start_if.foo0 call dhclient for that interface I guess.
Anyway, dhcp is well outside of where I'm game to touch.. :-)
