There is no pppoe(8).  You accidently typed ``pppoed'' (note the 'd'),
and it gave you the manual for the PPPOE server.  The ppp(8) syntax in
the Handbook is correct as far as I can tell (I don't use pppoe right
now, but it looks reasonable).
