Hi there. I wrote yesterday with some problems I was having in the
install process, and I'm not giving my own partition sizes, I'm choosing
A for it to automatically partition itself, as suggested below.

I think I'm doing three separate things wrong:
1. In the full screen visual kernel configuration, I don't think I'm
getting it to recognize my modem correctly. I have a 486 laptop with an
IBM PCMCIA credit card adaptor modem. I delete all the conflicting
devices, and add ze0 (the IBM/National Semiconductor PCMCIA Ethernet
Adaptor) from the bottom list, and save changes. Then I get a screen
which states whether the devices are found or not, but it scrolls past
too quickly for me to see if it says 'ze0 - device not found' or
something like that. Am I doing this correctly?

2. In the FreeBSD disklabel editor, after I hit 'A' for an automatic
partition (I have no OS on this computer currently and want to devote
the entire hard drive to BSD) and it prompts me for a 'mount point for
the partition' I'm not sure what to enter here. I selected the option
which made it possible to add additional OS's in the future; I don't
know if that has something to do with it - but the partition it creates
for BSD uses up the majority of the space, but there is a second 'chunk'
left (another partition?) with a tiny bit of memory in it. What should I
enter for the mount point?

3. When I try to install the developer kernel from the FTP site, I run
into modem probs again. I get a message, "PPP command started on VTY3
blah blah", so I hit Alt-F3 and get the prompt, "ppp ON> Warning: Can't
create /var/run/tun0.pid: No such file or directory." So I type "term"
and it prompts me "Warning: Can't create /var/run/cuaa0.if: No such file
or directory./Enter to terminal mode./Type '~?' for help." at which
point I assume I would type "ATDT(my ISP's phone number), but the
keyboard has frozen up and I have to soft reboot the machine. : ( Why
does this happen and how do I avoid it?

Help!! What am I doing wrong? : ( This is frusterating.
