The intention is to avoid security problems caused by dead accounts.

If people keep their account alive by correcting the birthday of
Benjamin Franklin then they are not a dead account, and they have
transgressed on neither intention nor rules of the project.

It may look a bit silly after some time with only commits of this
sort, in particular if they adjust Benjamin Franklins birthday every
time, but it is also neither against our rules nor intentions to
look silly.

Seen from a project point of view it can't possibly hurt our quality
if somebody attends to calendar or fortune, even if they only do
so once per year.

So I really fail to see what you are upset about...
