I do not see that "on its way out" is a coordinated effort.

If I am not mistaken, now emacs cannot be installed at the same time as 
for example kde5 (kdemultimedia, kdenlive, dvdauthor, ImageMagick6), 
inkscape (ImageMagick6), or calligra (pstoedit, ImageMagick6).

We already have some ports depending on ImageMagick7 and some on 
ImageMagick6, but so far all the desktop application stick to 
ImageMagick6. If they move one by one, there are many conflicts that 
breaks desktops. Is that really the way to go?
