Accidentally LILO'd boot disk - how to get boot: prompt back? So I'm resending it. Apologies if you have seen this before. ] I have to reinstall Linux to finish a project that requires it. Since I have a spare SCSI disk in my machine (that isn't being used by anything), I thought this would be an easy task. Boy was I wrong! It seems that LILO has accidentally overwritten the boot sector on my FreeBSD disk! Now when I boot, I don't get my nice "boot:" prompt, in stead I get "LI" -- yes, to add insult to injury, LILO doesn't even work properly! My FreeBSD partition is, thankfully, intact. I was able to boot into it by grabbing my 2.2.5 boot floppy and entering "0:wd(0,a)kernel" at the boot: prompt. All filesystems fsck'd and mount'd okay. But I'd like to get the FreeBSD boot loader back onto my IDE disk, where it belongs! But I don't know how to do this. My root disk is a **DANGEROUSLY DEDICATED** 3.2 GB Maxtor (DiamondMax) drive. Naturally, FreeBSD is the only OS that is occupying it. This is drive 0 on the primary IDE controller (wd0). My system also has a Seagate 1.0 GB drive as master on the secondary IDE (wd2) [Win95 is installed on this beast]. And I have a old Conner 500 MB SCSI disk on my SCSI bus (Adaptec AHA-2940AU) (sd0). Can anyone help? Please cc: to me by email if possible. Thanks! - --- Donald Burr - Ask me for my PGP key | PGP: Your WWW HomePage: http://DonaldBurr.base.org/ ICQ #1347455 | right to Address: P.O.
