I know that people are unhappy but on the other hand it looks like this is a kind of "obsoleting" release of software. 3dfx has their own financial issues which cast doubt on the long term viability of their stuff. The level of improvement that people need to make in their systems appears to me to be a substantial one - one that will cause people to have to address several portions of their game box. We could be seeing the beginning of some good times for PC manufacturers. People will have to do something substantial about their graphics, yes, but after having done that they will have to do something substantial about their cpu, motherboard, etc. My speculation is that having done all that, there will still be a problem! The game developers may have to face the prospect that there is only one piece of the puzzle that hasn't received a performance facelift and it is the OS ! :-) I know the Linux people will be in there trying to be the natural migration path. It would be nice if we could at least maintain parity with Linux on this nvdia issue. They are working on Tribes 3 already :-) Later Mark Hittinger Earthlink bugs@freebsd.netcom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
