Hmmmm.  I thought that "make search" essentially does its job by doing 
a grep on the INDEX file, which includes all manner of things besides 
version numbers, and does this for all ports in the ports collection 
(not just the installed ones).  pkg_version only knows how to deal with 
installed ports/packages.  So I'm not sure how this would work.
