Are you sure you didn't end up answering that you didn't have a USB
mouse?  This dialog can be a little confusing if you don't read it
carefully.

That's very odd.  You're using the ISO image?

Well, sysinstall died before that could happen so all bets were off. :)

As to the "default root password", there isn't one.  If you didn't
manage to set it, it defaults to no password.
