I had no luck setting my SEAGATE STD28000N DDS2 drive to async. In fact Seagate does not recommend it. There were some discussions on this on the list some months ago. But anyhow this doesn't clear up where the real problem lies. Do the tape manufacturers make such a bad firmware or is it ASUS? Using async might also reduce your tranfer rate to 5-7 MB/s.
