The linux camp had their own bit of fun with that too :-)  I was using
Linux then.  But you're right, the current libc status in the linux camp
is the worst I've seen yet, not having dealt with IRIX, this is the worst
so far (judging just by the problems I read on the multiplatform lists I'm
on).
