Hi!

I've got a little problem with the upgrade to the new GNOME. On one of
my machines, there are both full KDE and GNOME environment exist. Most
of the times, there is no problem with it. But now, I've found the next
two problems:

a) in previous GNOME, there was poppler. (Eg. evince needs it). But the
new poppler version installs the same command-line programs, as xpdf -
so there is a conflict. I like xpdf (better than poppler). OK, personal
preference, doesn't mind! But kdegraphics3 needs xpdf, too. As poppler
is a fork of xpdf, maybe I can change the kdegraphics3 dependency line -
but needs a better method. Are there any? Will be ever?

b) Interestingly, on my machine, there are both mDNSResponder (needed by
KDE3), howl (needed by the old GNOME), and avahi (needed by ekiga). Now,
I cannot upgrade, as avahi and mDNSResponder conflicts. As all the three
programs has the same functionality (at the first glance), is it
possible to use only one of them for both KDE/GNOME? And make a global
configuration to use X or Y or Z?

PS: something, like fam vs gamin, or the preferred JDK?
