Which is why, in my commit log, I only said "Too many patches are being implemented as Perl scripts" instead of "patches should never be implemented as Perl scripts". That said, I also think that there are probably cases where Perl scripts seem sensible for easing maintenance, when in actual fact the vendor might be quite receptive to making things easier for FreeBSD people.
