Thanks Steve, So USB2 from a PC should work, which is good. I had problems booting FreeBSD 7.1 from even the internal drive on the mac mini until I partitioned it with MBR (as opposed to GUID).. I tried installing to a USB drive last night, but it doesn't seem to show up when I hold down option while booting (that normally shows all bootable drives). I was hoping if anyone has done this for some pointers. --Andy On Mar 17, 2009, at 3:51 PM, Steve Bertrand wrote: > Andrew Moran wrote: >> >> Hey guys, >> >> I was wondering if anyone had any success in installing FreeBSD 7.1 >> on a >> USB2 or Firewire 800 drive connected to an intel Mac Mini and >> successfully booting off of it? > > I don't know about the Mac Mini part, but I certainly boot FreeBSD 7.1 > from USB2 drive: > > pe-acc-2b# df -h > Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on > /dev/da0a 939M 425M 439M 49% / > devfs 1.0K 1.0K 0B 100% /dev > /dev/md0 31M 16K 28M 0% /tmp > /dev/md1 15M 36K 14M 0% /var/run > /dev/md2 31M 2.4M 26M 9% /var/log > /tmp 31M 16K 28M 0% /var/tmp > > da0: <Flash Drive SK_USB20 1.00> Removable Direct Access SCSI-2 device > da0: 974MB (1994752 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 974C) > Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/da0a > > Steve >
