You're free to do that locally if you want (and you're prepared to deal with problems from the ports that expect to find XFree86 4.3.0 functionality - yes, there were significant changes in 4.3.0 that ports are already making use of, such as Xft). Backing out that commit is obviously not any kind of a reasonable solution, since it was done deliberately to allow the 4.3.0 upgrade. Whether or not there is another way to do it is a question for the X maintainer. It remains true that the FreeBSD ports collection does not support trying to use current ports with old versions of dependencies. It may work in some cases, or it may not...you're on your own.
