I know what it was...

./CVS/Repository pointed to /home/cvs, $CVSROOT was set to /home/ncvs,
cvs commit used CVSROOT to do the access checks, then politly deposited
your commit in the ./CVS/Repository area.

Yep.. I can duplicate that here on my repositories, sure enough that
does cause a commit to the wrong area.

Can we some how convert /home/cvs to READ ONLY cvs access??  We still
need to be able to do cvs co, but that is all.  I think a chmod -R a-r
on ~cvs/386BSD whould do the trick.
