Might I suggest that you use an alias instead?  Edit the file /etc/aliases and
then run the newaliases command.  For example, my aliases file looks like:

MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
Postmaster: root
root: doug
nobody: /dev/null

In theory this is more secure as well...

BTW, did you mention which version of sendmail you were using?
