The binutils ld reports unresolved and possibly unreferenced symbols at link time. I think this is the "bug" you are complaining about. On Digital Unix, the linker doesn't report the unreferenced, unresolved symbols, but the run-time linker _does_. I find that annoying. If there is a way of configuring binutils (without hacking the sources) to get behaviour that is "consistent" with other systems, we can consider that.
