I know in the past once Squid 3.x+1 was released Squid 3.x was considered EOL. 
This made having just 'www/squid' in ports make sense.  From the looks of
things at http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/ it would seem that both are
considered officially supported releases.  Do you have an idea if both are
going to be officially supported by upstream for some time?
